OUR DAILY MANNA DEVOTIONAL FOR 30TH SEPTEMBER 2020.

The Nobel PRIZE winner in Literature, Rudyard Kipling, was a bitter enemy of British involvement in the First World War. But during that war, he encouraged his son John to join the army. When his son failed the physical test, Mr. Kipling used his connections to get him into the army, only to watch him die in the battle for Loos (The Battle of Loos took place from 25 September – 8 October 1915 in France on the Western Front).

His son’s death left a scar and a wound that was hard to heal! His life was one that was full of trials, hardship and sorrow, but time and time again, he overcame.

The poem, “IF” published three years after he won the Nobel Prize, contains the lessons he learned and was considered to be the keys to his success. Part of it is engraved on the entrance to modern day Wimbledon Stadium UK, to remind the world of the hidden secrets of winning! Let’s go with the paraphrased version of the poem: If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies, Or being hated, don’t give way to hating, And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise.

If you can dream – and not make dreams your master; If you can think – and not make thoughts your aim; If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two impostors just the same; If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings And never breathe a word about your loss; If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it, And—which is more—you’ll be a man, my son! Always remember: “Fire is the test of gold; adversity, of strong men” (Martha Graham). Today’s 1st scripture, Vs. 8 says; “Let me hear what God the LORD will speak, for He will speak peace to His people, to His saints.”
